What is the proposed project?

WiredWest’s original “Plan A” was to build and operate a regional fiber broadband network for member towns. Fiber is the best technology that can deliver fast, reliable broadband internet to all premises. Doing this regionally is the most efficient and cost effective approach, and would minimize the burden to individual towns. MBI initially endorsed this plan and made [...]

Is WiredWest a One Size Fits All Solution?

2019-10-21T20:41:16-04:00September 29th, 2016||

Peter Larkin and MBI make this claim about WiredWest. In fact, WiredWest has always been a coalition of the willing, not necessarily a panacea for all. It was MBI who at first promoted WiredWest as the regional solution and asked towns to appropriate money for their share of a regional network. A year later, they reversed course and declared that all towns [...]

How long until fiber optic gets to us?

MBI is controlling this process and towns must work through a complex procedure with MBI to build their networks. MBI's reset of the plans in December of 2015 set the timeline back at least a year. It will probably be 2018 before the first towns come online.

Who is eligible to sign up for service?

All residents, including renters, and property owners in any of the 32 towns currently enrolled in the “Fiber Town” campaign may sign up to receive WiredWest services.  This includes full-time as well as part-time residents.  Renters will need the permission of the property owner prior to future installation.

How would this new network compare to existing broadband options?

Some (or even all) of the residents in your town may already have access to high speed internet (via DSL or wireless). The new fiber optic network will be accessible to all residents — whether or not they currently have internet access. We believe the superiority of fiber optic service and the advantages a community-owned [...]

How will WiredWest manage the network?

2016-09-17T11:18:42-04:00March 27th, 2015||

WiredWest will link the individual towns networks into a regional one using fiber rings. This will allow consolidation of bandwidth and services. We  currently has an RFI out and is talking with potential vendors to operate the network. We are in the process of developing a financial model and business plan. All services, such as customer [...]
